About one\u00a0million jobs are vacant across the country.<\/p>\n<p>The new plan puts an emphasis on increasing the number of immigrants who will be admitted based on their work skills or experience over the next three years.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/politics\/statistics-canada-immigration-census-1.6629861\">Population share of immigrants, permanent residents hits 23% record: census<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/politics\/safe-third-country-agreement-top-court-1.6608810\">Federal lawyers defend Canada-U.S. asylum deal at top court, argue U.S. legal system is &#8216;fair and just&#8217;<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/politics\/canada-working-age-poupulation-census-1.6432398\">Canada&#8217;s working-age population is older than ever, StatsCan says<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This news comes after <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/politics\/statistics-canada-immigration-census-1.6629861\">new census figures<\/a> released last month revealed that immigrants and permanent residents now account for 23 per cent of the population \u2014\u00a0an all-time high.<\/p>\n<p>Statistics Canada said that recent immigrants \u2014 those who arrived between 2016 and 2021 \u2014\u00a0are younger\u00a0on average\u00a0than the rest of the Canadian population and have been critical to filling many jobs\u00a0in the Canadian labour market.<\/p>\n<p>From 2016 to 2021, immigrants accounted for four-fifths of Canada&#8217;s labour force growth. A large share of recent immigrants were selected for their ability to contribute to Canada&#8217;s economy.<\/p>\n<p>Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada said it will fall short of the BCC&#8217;s request\u00a0as it sets its target for economic immigrants at\u00a060 per cent of the annual total\u00a0by 2025.<\/p>\n<p>The BCC says that a recent survey of its members found that 67 per cent of its members had cancelled or delayed major projects because they could not find workers.
