Providing access to healthy food, education and training. The Greater Vancouver Food Bank does just this and a whole lot more. They believe that people should have access to healthy and nutritious food where they live and in a dignified manner.

With a mission like this, it’s no wonder why KanaVero’s co-owners Iman Moghadam and Milad Khavari didn’t bat an eye when writing out a cheque for $10,000 to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank.

The KanaVero Real Estate Team spent the morning with the lovely Heidi Magnuson-Ford, Development Officer of the Great Vancouver Food Bank. Before our tour, she told us of some key stats which highlight why the work of the GVFB is so important many people living in Vancouver.

  • 26,500 people access GVFB services each week.
  • This is through 14 distribution locations and partnerships with close to 100 community agencies.
  • 20% of their members are children.
  • 19% of their members are seniors.
  • GVFB receives, purchases and distributes approximately 4.4 million pounds of food each year.

Eager to know where our donation will go, Heidi opened the doors to the GVFB sorting/distribution facility, and we were amazed at the amount of food that was being sorted and stacked by the dedicated volunteers!

Heidi explained “with each $1 you donate, we can purchase at least $3 worth of nutritious groceries and fresh produce for the thousands of people we support each week.”

Needless to say, our donation of $10,000 will stretch further than we had initially imagined. Every dollar counts! Monetary contributions allow the GVFB to buy quality, fresh food and support a variety of community agencies and food distribution programs.

We encourage you to donate to the GVFB or find a local organization supporting a cause close to your heart. At the end of the day, it’s all about giving back to those in need.
